An interesting use of interactive whiteboards for prep students

What an amazing and versatile tool for active learning!  They appeal to all learning senses (Felder, & Solomon, as cited in Aldred, 2010), and have such a multitude of uses in the classroom.  My grandson attends a State school where there are interactive whiteboards in every classroom and from all accounts all teachers rave about them and use them for just about everything.

I observed an interesting use of the interactive whiteboard in my grandson's prep classroom.  As a way of introducing young students to this technology, the prep teacher draws and divides the whiteboard into two columns.  One column is labelled "not here" and the other column is labelled "here".  In the "not here" column every students' photo is displayed.  Each morning as students arrive they eagerly drag their photo from the "not here" column over to the "here" column.  I believe this is an enjoyable and simple way of introducing this technology to young children.  Please share any other great ideas or uses you have observed.
